At McCowans Solictors we work closely with our clients to come up with payment arrangements that are fair and offer certainty rather than unexpected and unwanted surprises. Here are three of our most typical payment arrangements:

• Fixed-free. Particularly with family law clients, we are able to come an arrangement that fixes the cost of your fees in advance. Essentially, we quote on the costs of your legal representation, what may be excluded, and how and when the fee is to be paid. You may, for example, opt for smaller staged payments. If you agree to the terms, we all sign the contract and begin working on resolving your matter.
• No-win, no-fee. This often applies to our personal injury and criminal compensation claims. You pay nothing up front. We pay all the ongoing expenses and deduct our fees from your final award. We take all the risk, and you never dip into your own pocket. We never ask for money unless we secure a judgment in your favour and you receive compensation. Should anything go wrong, the worst case scenario is that you walk away.
• Hourly rate. Some of our clients prefer to be billed on a traditional hourly rate. We agree on an hourly rate, and then provide regular, detailed invoices for payment.
